Pastor Kevin Akana of Windward Baptist Church along with August Kaawa, started Rebuilders Addictions Ministry (R.A.M.) in order to help those struggling with addictions - specifically, "ice".

"Several years ago my father got hooked on "ice". It rendered him jobless, penniless and homeless. He needed to get into a Christian based addictions ministry, where he could learn about God, and also be living in a controlled environment. Unfortunately, he never got the help that he needed, and on March 8, 2004 I received a call from the Medical examiner that my dad was found dead on the side of a street. He had drugs on him, and in his system. It is because of what happened to my father that we started a ministry called Rebuilders Addictions Ministry. We are determined to help those that are addicted to "ice" and other abusive substances. It is our goal to provide transitional housing, classes, meetings, job training and counseling. This is the kind of program that my father needed. Although it is to late for him, perhaps many other lives can be spared, and souls saved!" Kevin Akana

R.A.M. is a Biblical based addictions program that is designed to Rebuild the life of those struggling with addictions.

It is our mission is to help rebuild the lives of those struggling with addictive behavior by establishing a solid foundation for them to build upon. It is our vision to see those who are in bondage to their addiction become free to live a happy, healthy, productive, victorious life. We believe this to be possible through Jesus Christ and by following the principles found in the Word of God.

R.A.M. is committed to ministering to those that are struggling with addiction!

People turn to addictions for different reasons: to fill a void, peer pressure, experiment, stress relief, ect… Once someone is addicted to drugs or alcohol they are going to be faced with many problems.

These problems will affect them: physically, mentally, socially, spiritually, financially, vocationally and emotionally. It is not enough for someone to overcome one of these areas. For example, if someone overcomes the physical addiction, but does not have money to live, they will be tempted to go back to selling drugs and before long they will be physically addicted again. Or, if someone overcomes the physical addiction, and is financially stable, but they have many warrants for their arrest, the stress from the warrants could cause them to go back to their original stress relief - drugs, or alcohol.

The addicted need to rebuild their entire life from the inside out. R.A.M. is committed to helping the addicted in every area of their life!

We will assist in rebuilding lives:
Spiritually - By teaching someone how to have a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Mentally - By teaching the 12 foundations curriculum and applying the Biblical principles to daily living.
Emotionally - through support groups and one on one counseling.
Socially - through accountability and social interactions with likeminded people.
Personally - By taking care of personally obligations and responsibilities, reestablishing them into society, restoring family ties, and taking care of legal responsibilities.
Vocationally - through job training and career placement. Physically - Through physical training and proper nutrition.

Testimonies:

AUGUST KAAWA ~ I struggled with "ice" for over 25 years. No matter what I did I could not seem to kick the habit. My whole life revolved around my addiction. A few years ago I came to Christ and He set me free. Since then it has become my desire to help others find the same freedom I found. In April of 2003 I sought out to begin an addictions ministry right here in Kahalu'u. Pastor Kevin Akana and I flew up to the mainland to receive training in order to begin an addictions ministry. Today that ministry is known as Rebuilders Addictions ministry. Since that ministry has begun we have seen many people delivered from their addictions. It is my hope and prayer that we can help many others!

LEANNE LEE ~ I used to be an alcoholic and an "ice" addict. I tried desperately on my own to stop using and drinking but could not. I also went to A.A. but that was not enough for me. One day I saw the Rebuilders sign and decided to give it a try. Since then I have not found the need to pick up another drink or drug and my life has changed drastically. Rebuilders ministry helped me to develop a relationship with God and has given me a new lease on life. Thank you Rebuilders!

JACOB KENNEDY ~ A couple of years ago my cousin invited me to Rebuilders Addictions ministry. I could see the changes in his life. I figured that if Rebuilders could help him, then maybe it could help me. I attended and I have not been the same since. Not only did I learn some Biblical principles that are helping me to stay clean, but I learned a lot about the Bible, and how I can have a relationship with Jesus Christ!

JENNIFER KAAWA ~ As an adult I was addicted to "ice" for many years. Because of my addiction I made some very bad choices that still affects me today. I knew I had to stop what I was doing, but it was not easy. Then one day I decided to give my life to God, and things have been different ever since then. Although I can not change the things I have done in the past, God has allowed me to rebuild my life, and to raise my children for Him. I have five wonderful children who are all doing quite well - praise the Lord that I can now be the mother that He wants me to be!
